The landscape surrounding sports content available to commercial establishments is changing rapidly and, if you aren’t paying attention, you’re going to get left behind.  You may remember the confusion this summer when the NFL Sunday Ticket transitioned from DIRECTV to YouTube for residential customers and EverPass secured the commercial rights. We fielded a ton of calls as a result of that change. Many of you weren’t prepared and were caught off guard.

Alas, that isn’t where the confusion is going to end for many of you this year.

There’s another change of which you might not be aware. Two NFL games will be exclusively available on Peacock Sports Pass via streaming only one regular season game between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Chargers on 12/23, and one Wild Card playoff game on January 13, 2024.

If you don’t want to miss out on those games, then please read on so we can fully inform you of what to expect and how to acquire them.

Sports Bars Thrive on the NFL

Football fans watching a streaming-only NFL games at a sports bar.

Let’s start with this bold assertion… the success of EVERY sports-themed operator in the US is tied directly to the National Football League. You can translate that assertion to imply the following: No high-performing sports bar will go without access to ANY NFL game, lest they demonstrate to guests a lack of commitment to delivering a reliable sports-viewing experience.

The fact is, the NFL is a lifeblood of American sports bars. And that means you need to have access to every NFL game there is – even if it’s on streaming.

In fact, whenever guests are polled as to their primary reason for visiting a sports-themed restaurant, unsurprisingly the answer is to watch sports. That means providing all the content available is a minimum expectation of any operator serious about sports.

In short: if you’re not offering these games, your guests will take their business to a sports bar that does.

How to Get Access to Streaming-Only NFL Exclusive Games – And More!

Streaming-only NFL game being shown on a TV at a sports bar. The TV is against a brick wall.

While you can ignore our assertion at your own risk, the majority of you are already asking, “Ok, what have I got to do to deal with this?”

The first thing you must acknowledge is that streaming is here to stay and likely will become an integral part of your content provision in the very near future. For example, Peacock Sports Pass, the streaming package for these two NFL games, has exclusive rights to a lot more content than just these two NFL games. They also carry up to 180 exclusive Premier League matchups and exclusive Big Ten games in football and basketball. This means Peacock Sports Pass provides significant content that is available all year long.

Your next logical question is “How do I access it?”

As of now, the only way to access Peacock Sports Pass at a commercial establishment is to get a commercial- grade  streaming device(s) from UPshow, the leading marketing & entertainment platform for TVs. As subscribers to the Daily Rail and SportsTV Guide, you may have already heard us trumpeting the value of UPShow’s services. UPShow not only delivers best in class digital signage & entertainment, but they also provide access to UFC PPV events and many customers experience meaningful cost savings streaming UFC PPV Events on UPshow vs. Direct TV. That savings easily covers the expense of UPShow and ensures you can also access Peacock Sports Pass.

Once you decide to get onboard, UPShow will provide you with a pre-provisioned commercial-grade  streaming device(s) that can be connected to your audio/visual system or directly to one of your TVs that will deliver their digital signage & entertainment content and provide the streaming access you need to show all the Peacock Sports Pass programming available. They are recommending you sign up by December 10th to leave plenty of time to get your equipment and test before these two big games.

We’re Here to Support You in the Transition to Streaming Sports

Football fans celebrating while watching a streaming-only NFL games at a sports-themed restaurant

We understand the frustration many of you feel as sports rights move increasingly to streaming. Few of you have built-in systems sufficient to make this transition and it’s a little scary to stare down this massive change. Some of you might even consider using a personal account rather than embarking on the path necessary to facilitate streaming at all. While we can’t tell you what to do, we strongly discourage you from making a choice that in the short; long term, will cause you serious consequences.

No matter how you feel, the reality is that these games are exclusively on Peacock Sports Pass and only available via UPShow to provide the stream. If you have questions or need any further support, please feel free to either, email me directly at sportstvguide@thedailyrail.com or call (877) 219-7838 x103.
