Unlike the NBA and NHL, the MLB post-season is short and sweet. With three rounds and an escalating amount of intensity, October can be a raucous run to crowing a World Series Champion. The entire month will feature primetime matchups. Among the best features of this month is that games are played back to back nightly. Unlike the NBA where there are as many as four days between playoff games, the MLB gets it done with no series having more than two rest/travel days included.

The playoffs boot off tomorrow with the first of two Wildcard games. First Milwaukee takes on Washington in fight to see who flies west to Chavez Ravine and the Los Angeles Dodgers. This is followed by Tampa Bay playing in Oakland to fly the opposite direction to meet the Houston Astros. The other teams that qualified includes St. Louis visiting Atlanta, and Texas traveling to New York to take on the Yankees in the Bronx.

These are five game affairs and as such a more intense style of play. With only five games the stakes raise with whomever wins the first game wins the series 73.4% of the time. That’s a massive advantage, so those first games really matter.

From the Divisional Series, we go to one of the best playoff semi-finals in sports. Starting on October 11th and running until the 20th, there will be primetime games nightly with an overlap of four nights with two games. Often times the League Championship Series are more exciting than the World Series. These 7 game sets feature the four best teams in baseball and invariably seem to be exciting.

Then finally the Fall Classic ends October with a bang. The weather can sometimes be a factor in the World Series, so we will have to wait to see if our cold weather teams are still alive on October 22nd when it begins. New York, Milwaukee, and St. Louis can all be pretty chilly in late-October. Nothing quite like professional baseball players in ear muffs and heated mittens. NO matter who qualifies, the World Series is among our nation’s most prized events and shouldn’t disappoint this year as it hasn’t in years past.
