The 2018 NCAA March Madness Round 2 TV Schedule

March Madness 2018 has already been a banner year for upsets, last second shots, and weird tourney happenings. With only two number one seeds surviving, the second weekend it’s a wide-open field. In fact, Virginia was the first number one seed to ever lose in the first round…Go Retrievers, although they lost on Sunday. Just to clarify how many upsets there were: Of the 16 top seeds only seven remain. This is the worst performance of top seeds in tournament history. But have no fear, there are plenty of recognizable names still remaining, including last year’s champion, Villanova. Perennial powerhouses like Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Syracuse are still alive and looking to knock off Nova. The 2018 NCAA March Madness TV Schedule

And here it comes again…March in all its Madness! For sports-themed operators this is more like Christmas than St. Paddy’s Day. The first two days of full bracket play, featuring 64 teams from every corner of the country. All with the hope they can win it all. Of course, after Thursday and Friday, it calms a bit -- unless your local team is still alive, then the real madness begins. The good news is there are no surprises in this one. You always have a minimum of two days to prepare for whatever happens with your local entrant. Download Your 2018 March Madness TV Schedule Eastern | Central | Mountain | Pacific As far as your schedules are concerned, the games are spread out over the entire day on Thursday and Friday, so that really equalizes the volume. There are [...]

How Sports Bars Can Prep for March Madness

Every year as March approaches, we field inquiries about the schedule for the NCAA March Madness Tournament and how to best prepare for it. Unfortunately, every year we respond by explaining, it’s really just the first two days of full field play that can be called madness. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t prepare or promote to get as much from the event as possible. Check out our recent blog with some new ideas for promoting the NCAA Tournament. What makes the tournament great before it starts is also what slows it down as it progresses. With 68 teams making the cut, there is hardly a place in the US that doesn’t have a stake in the tourney before the first tip-off. Unfortunately, once play concludes on Thursday and Friday, that number dwindles to just 32 teams, and by Sunday [...]

Download the 2018 Winter Olympics TV Schedule Here!

The Winter Olympics officially begin on February 9th from PyeonChang, South Korea. During each Olympiad we try to offer you some insights on how to leverage them to your best advantage. To that end, there is good news and bad news for restaurants and bars hoping to attract guests to watch the events unfold at their locations. The good news is that there is an enormous amount of live coverage and ALL events will be available live. The bad news is that many of those events are at odd hours due the 12 hour time difference between Korea and North America. As with every Olympiad, the most important event is the first one -- the Opening Ceremony. The excitement associated with seeing all the teams march through the central stadium in their full international regalia has captivated audiences forever. This [...]

Why ESPN College Extra Sucks (and Why You Need It!)

For years I have advocated that any operator that dares to refer to themselves as a sports bar has an inherent obligation to buy all the programming available via DIRECTV or their cable operator. I have been passionate and adamant that this is the way to build your business and prove to your guests that YOU ARE THE PLACE to watch sports. Well, this past week, my resolve has been sorely tested by a sports PPV package, ESPN College Extra (ESPNCX). ESPN College Extra is a hybrid of two previous stations — ESPN Game Plan and Full Court. The problem with this union is that College Extra has essentially thrown away the wheat and kept the chaff. For example, last week in 27 games delivered by ESPNCX, only three were between ranked teams. With NCAA Football, out of 140 games aired there was a grand total of two games with ranked [...]

Copa America 2016 & European Championship 2016

You may have heard soccer referred to as the “beautiful game.” Maybe you agree, maybe you don’t, but for sure you should like it this summer with the arrival of two major international competitions. Starting Friday, June 3rd, the Copa America 2016 lands on US soil for the first time ever. On the following Friday, June 10th, the European Championship kicks off, often referred to as the “real World Cup.” The great news is they both air during different revenue periods and are 100% on regular TV channels. If you don’t remember, the Copa America 2016 was central to this past year’s FIFA corruption scandal, complete with federal indictments, international intrigue, and embarrassing perp walks. That’s all behind us now and the event is sure to be a big deal with venues coast to coast hosting many of football’s (soccer to you and me) international [...]

This Weekend in Sports TV: February 6, 2016

Super Bowl 50 is this week and that means the weekend sports schedule is fairly horrible. Nobody wants to compete with a game that draws 100 million sets of eyes. That being said, there are some quality items that you can use to build other parts of your guest following. UFC Fight Night Let’s start with the free UFC event on Saturday at 8pm ET on FS1(219). The main event features Johny Hendricks vs Stephen Thompson. Both are contenders fighting for a shot at the 170lbs Title. Free events like these are the foundation you need to build upon to justify your investment in the UFC PPV schedule. Add to these programming like The Ultimate Fighter and you can prove to your guests that you get MMA and UFC right. NCAA Basketball Heats Up The NCAA Basketball schedule is fairly light this weekend [...]

As we always encourage, use the programming you purchase to both entertain your guests and gain their trust. Even one TV showing something obscure can create a loyal guest. And remember, you can find the listings for every sporting event airing on TV in our SportsTV Guide. AHHH, NASCAR, FINALLY This weekend kicks off with the beginning of the NASCAR season and it’s all about the newly renovated facilities at the Daytona International Speedway. With the live practice runs on Friday night, your guests will get their first view of the incredible $400 million worth of upgrades. And that’s not the only thing in NASCAR that got upgrades this year. Check out this year’s preview of the new team paint schemes. Practice continues during Saturday afternoon, however, the [...]
